Rise of Olympus
Rise of Olympus is a Play’n GO grid slot released on 22 August 2018. It uses a 5×5 cascading grid where three or more matching symbols in a straight row or column pay, and every new drop in the same spin raises a win multiplier. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades each have their own grid-changing ability, and the free spins round is triggered not by scatters but by clearing every symbol from the grid.
This review covers the pay system, the three Hand of God abilities, the Wrath of Olympus meter, the free spins choice and the RTP. All figures come from the in-game paytable and the official rules, which list an average RTP of 96.50% and a maximum win of 5,000x the bet. You can check each mechanic in the Rise of Olympus demo on this page.

How Rise of Olympus Works
Every row and column of the 5×5 grid is active. A win needs at least three identical symbols next to each other in a straight line, and one symbol can count towards a horizontal and a vertical win at the same time. Winning symbols are removed, the rest drop down and new ones fall in. The win multiplier on the left of the screen rises by one step with each new drop, so the third and fourth cascades in a spin pay more than the first. In the base game it resets to x1 at the start of the next spin.
When a three-symbol win is removed, a gold coin wild appears in the middle position of that combination. Wilds substitute for every symbol. If wilds are the only symbols left on the grid, they are removed too, which counts towards clearing the grid.
Values at a 1.00 bet: five wild coins pay 50.00, four pay 3.00 and three pay 1.00. Five Zeus, Poseidon or Hades symbols pay 10.00 (4 pay 1.00, 3 pay 0.30), and any mix of the three gods pays 5.00 for five. The lyre and helmet pay 3.00 for five, and the trident and lightning bolt pay 2.00.

The symbol set is small: three god portraits as premiums, four low symbols (lyre, helmet, trident and lightning bolt) and the wild coin. Mixed god lines pay through the “any god” entry, so a row of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades symbols still wins, at half the five-of-a-kind rate of a single god. God wins also feed the Wrath of Olympus meter, which makes the three portraits the most important symbols on the grid.
Hand of God Feature
The god standing to the right of the grid is the active god. On a spin without a win, the Hand of God can trigger at random and that god changes the grid to create a win. After each trigger the active god changes.
- Hades transforms one set of symbols into another symbol.
- Poseidon adds one or two wilds to the grid.
- Zeus destroys two sets of symbols, and new symbols drop into the gaps.

The game round continues normally after the effect, so a Hand of God can start a cascade chain with a rising multiplier.

Wrath of Olympus
The round meter below the multiplier has three sections and fills only from winning combinations of god symbols (wilds can be part of them). Five of a kind fills three sections, four fill two and three fill one. When the meter is full and the cascades have stopped, the game awards one free round: the drop multiplier resets, then Hades, Poseidon and Zeus perform their Hand of God abilities one after another, with cascades played out after each. The order is the same every time, and the feature cannot retrigger itself.

Free Spins and the Clear the Grid Prize
Free spins start when every symbol has been removed from the grid. You then choose one of three gods:
| God | Initial free spins | Extra spins per full meter |
|---|---|---|
| Hades | 4 | +4 |
| Poseidon | 5 | +3 |
| Zeus | 8 | +2 |
The chosen god’s Hand of God triggers on every non-winning free spin. The drop multiplier is not reset between free spins and can climb to x20. Fewer spins means fewer chances, but with Hades or Poseidon the multiplier still carries over, so the choice is mainly between more spins (Zeus) and a stronger ability (Hades transforms, Poseidon adds wilds). The round is capped at 20 free spins in total, and Wrath of Olympus is switched off. Clearing the grid again during free spins pays an instant 100x the total bet.

RTP and Volatility
The official rules state an average RTP of 96.50%. Play’n GO also supplies lower RTP configurations to operators, and they look identical in play, so read the RTP line in the casino’s own copy of the rules. Volatility is not published in the rules. The game is usually classed as high volatility, which matches how it plays: many small cascade wins, and most of the value in multiplied cascade chains, the Wrath feature and free spins.

Worked Example: Multiplier on Cascades
At A$1 per spin, a row of five Zeus symbols pays A$10 at the x1 multiplier. If the same five Zeus land after two cascades in the same spin, the multiplier has reached x3 and the win becomes A$30. In free spins the multiplier carries over from spin to spin, so four Poseidon symbols (A$1 at x1) would pay A$12 once the multiplier has reached x12, and A$20 at the x20 cap.
Bankroll Tips for Rise of Olympus
- Free spins require a full grid clear and can take several hundred spins to appear. Size the stake so the budget covers at least 250 spins.
- Many base game wins are below the stake. Track net results per session, not single wins.
- The free spins choice changes risk, not RTP. Zeus gives the most spins; Hades and Poseidon give fewer spins with stronger help.
- Set deposit and loss limits in your casino account before you start.

Final Verdict
Rise of Olympus combines a straight-line cascade grid with a per-drop multiplier, three Hand of God abilities and a free spins round where the multiplier carries over to x20. The standard RTP is 96.50% and the cap is 5,000x the bet. The main drawback is the trigger: free spins need a full grid clear, so the round is infrequent. Test the pacing in the demo and confirm the RTP at your casino before playing for money.
