Casino Bonus Wagering Calculator
By Sophie Lin, Payments and Bonuses EditorUpdated
Enter the bonus terms below to see how much you need to bet, how many bets that takes at your stake and what the wagering costs on average. The result shows whether a bonus is worth more or less than the betting it requires, before the other rules in the terms are applied.
How the numbers are worked out
- Bonus credited = deposit × match %, capped at the maximum bonus.
- Wagering to complete = (bonus, or deposit + bonus) × multiplier ÷ game weighting.
- Expected loss = wagering to complete × (100% − RTP). A 96% RTP game returns A$96 per A$100 bet on average, so A$4,000 of bets costs about A$160.
- Expected value = bonus − expected loss.
A worked example: a A$100 deposit with a 100% match up to A$500 gives a A$100 bonus. At 40x on the bonus only, you need A$4,000 of bets on pokies that count 100%. On a 96% RTP game the expected loss is A$160, so the bonus has an expected value of −A$60. The same offer at 40x on deposit plus bonus needs A$8,000 of bets and costs about A$320 on average.
What the calculator leaves out
Real bonus terms add rules that the maths above cannot price: a maximum bet while the bonus is active, an expiry date, a maximum cashout on bonus winnings and excluded games. Non-sticky bonuses also change the picture, because you play with your own money first and can walk away before the bonus is used. The guide to wagering requirements explains each rule, and game weighting lists typical contribution rates by game type.
Results are averages. Over a few thousand bets the outcome can land well above or below the expected figure, especially on high-volatility pokies. Set a budget before you accept a bonus, and if gambling stops being fun, free support is available from Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858.
