Tabcorp Launches One Pool, Merging Australia’s Three Tote Pools
Tabcorp has launched One Pool, a single national totalisator that merges the three pools it previously ran separately: NSW TAB, SuperTAB (Victoria, Western Australia and the ACT) and UniTAB (Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory). Trade press reported the launch on 2 October 2026, ahead of the spring racing carnival, and described it as the first national pari-mutuel pool in Australia in about 70 years.
How the tote worked before
In pari-mutuel betting, all bets on a market go into one pool. The operator deducts its take-out, and the rest is shared among winning bets. Until now, the three Tabcorp pools co-mingled but did not fully merge, so dividends on the same race could differ depending on where a punter bet. One Pool replaces that arrangement with a single pool, so a bet placed in any state receives the same dividend.
From approval to launch
The project took most of 2026 to clear its approvals:
- In July 2026 Racing NSW agreed a package with Tabcorp that included approval of the national tote, extensions of several commercial agreements to 2031 and Racing NSW taking over management of Sky Thoroughbred Central.
- Tabcorp had flagged an August launch, but final sign-off from state gambling regulators took longer.
- Gambling.com reported on 21 September that regulatory approval had been received and that live testing would start on 24 September at a Mount Gambier greyhound meeting, a Tamworth harness program and a Warwick thoroughbred meeting, using technology Tabcorp already uses for international pools.
- Testing expanded to all domestic meetings from 28 September before the formal launch.
Prices and take-out
The Straight reported in September that win pools will carry a uniform take-out of 14.5% (excluding World Pool events). Some exotic bets will cost slightly more than in the NSW TAB and SuperTAB pools: trifecta take-out rises from 21% to 21.5%, first four from 22.5% to 23% and quadrella from 20% to 20.5%.
The main promised benefit is liquidity. Tabcorp says larger pools should produce steadier tote prices, most noticeably at smaller midweek meetings where thin pools have caused late swings in dividends.
What Tabcorp expects
Chief wagering officer Michael Fitzsimons described the launch as a starting point for an 18-month modernisation program rather than a quick fix for tote betting, which has lost ground to fixed-odds bookmakers for years. He said Tabcorp does not expect large growth immediately but now has a platform to build on. CEO Gillon McLachlan said the product must stay competitive and offer value, with deeper pools the main draw for punters.
Planned next steps include:
- variable take-out rates linked to field size;
- pool betting on sports such as AFL and NRL;
- wholesale access to One Pool for rival bookmakers, with no timetable set.
Corporate bookmakers that offer tote-derivative products had not said by September whether they would bet back into One Pool.

One Pool is part of the turnaround Tabcorp outlined with its FY26 results in August, which also included a proposed acquisition of wagering technology supplier BetMakers. It is Tabcorp’s national tote, which merges the NSW TAB, SuperTAB and UniTAB pools into a single pool so the same bet earns the same dividend in every state.
Live testing began on 24 September 2026 and the launch was reported on 2 October 2026, ahead of the spring racing carnival.
Reports say win pools carry a uniform 14.5% take-out, while trifecta, first four and quadrella take-outs rise by 0.5 percentage points compared with the NSW TAB and SuperTAB pools.
