Microgaming and Games Global Slots: Mega Moolah, RTPs and Studios

Microgaming is one of the oldest names in online casino software; since 2022 its game portfolio and distribution business have been run by Games Global, which lists 1,300+ proprietary games and 40+ in-house and partner studios. Classic titles such as Mega Moolah, Immortal Romance and Thunderstruck II now appear under the Games Global label. The slots below are the Microgaming titles reviewed on this site.
From Microgaming to Games Global
Microgaming was founded on the Isle of Man in 1994 and is widely credited with one of the first online casino software platforms. For more than two decades it supplied both the casino platform and the games, through its own network and later through aggregators. In 2022 the games portfolio and the distribution business moved to a new company, Games Global, while Microgaming continued as a platform and services business. Casinos and players still use the Microgaming name for the legacy catalogue, which is why this site files those titles here.
Games Global states that it was established in 2022 and is led by CEO Walter Bugno. Its key regulatory entries are:
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Content owner since 2022 | Games Global (Games Global Operations Limited) |
| UK Gambling Commission | Account number 58841 (Games Global Operations Limited) |
| Malta Gaming Authority | Prima Networks Limited (C46476), Type 1 Gaming Services, licence MGA/CRP/926/2021, issued 28 February 2022 |
| Portfolio | 1,300+ proprietary games |
| Studios | 40+ in-house and partnered studios |
| Formats | Slots, table games, video bingo, video poker, crash games |
Studio structure
Games Global does not develop every title itself. Its slots come from a group of in-house and partner studios that publish under the Games Global umbrella, among them Stormcraft Studios, Gameburger Studios, Alchemy Gaming, Just For The Win, Pulse 8, Neon Valley, Snowborn and Triple Edge. The studio name shown in a game’s splash screen tells you who designed the maths. Recent examples include Immortal Romance ASSEMBL’EM by Stormcraft Studios, which added a card-collecting mechanic with five upgradeable features to the Immortal Romance series, and 12 Masks of Fire: Eruption Prize Flow by Gameburger Studios.
Progressive jackpot network
The jackpot network is the part of the catalogue most associated with the Microgaming name.
- Mega Moolah: a five-reel slot linked to a four-tier progressive jackpot (Mini, Minor, Major, Mega). In October 2015 it paid £13,209,300, recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest online slot payout at the time. A 2021 win of €19.4 million on Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad set a later network record.
- WowPot: a second network jackpot. On 20 December 2023, a WowPot win on Wheel of Wishes (Alchemy Gaming) paid €38,461,200.95, the largest online slot jackpot reported by the company.
- Games Global reported that Mega Moolah and WowPot together paid more than €155 million in 2023.
Jackpot slots return a lower share of stakes in the base game because part of every bet funds the pot. Mega Moolah’s overall RTP is around 88%, compared with about 96% for most non-jackpot titles. Our progressive jackpots guide explains that trade-off and how jackpot triggers work.
Notable non-jackpot releases
| Game | Year | Default RTP | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thunderstruck II | 2010 | 96.65% | Great Hall of Spins, four free-spin levels |
| Immortal Romance | 2011 | 96.86% | Chamber of Spins, Wild Desire |
| Break da Bank Again | 2012 | 95.43% | 5x multiplier free spins |
| 9 Masks of Fire | 2019 | 96.24% | Scatter pays, free spins |
Many legacy Microgaming games are supplied in several RTP versions, and newer Games Global releases follow the same model. Use our guide on checking a game’s RTP to see the version your casino uses, and RTP explained for what the percentage does and doesn’t predict.
Mechanics introduced or popularised
Games Global’s newer slots lean on named mechanics: LOCKNWINX and Prize Flow are recent hold-and-win style features, and many titles use cash-collect symbols with fixed prizes. For the general mechanism behind them, see our hold-and-win guide. The older catalogue is mostly classic payline slots with tiered free-spin unlocks, as in Thunderstruck II and Immortal Romance.
Availability for Australian players
Games Global supplies regulated markets such as the UK, Malta-licensed operators, Ontario and several European countries, and its distribution terms restrict some countries. On this site, 8 reviewed casinos list Microgaming games; three of them (1win, Lucky Star and 1xBet) do not accept Australian residents, leaving 5 for Australians. The list is on casinos with Microgaming games.
Because supplier agreements can exclude Australia even when a casino accepts Australian players, a game visible in the public lobby may not open after login, and demos can be blocked in the same way. Check that the specific title loads in your account before you deposit for it. Our page on offshore casinos and Australian law explains the legal background.
