Pink Elephants 2

Play for real

Pink Elephants 2 is Thunderkick’s sequel to its 2015 hit, moved to a mountain landscape where four goats travel to the dimension of the pink elephants. It plays on 6 reels and 4 rows with 4,096 pay ways. The current version on Thunderkick’s site (“Reborn”) lists a 96.13% RTP, high volatility and a maximum of 10,000x the bet per game round. The core of the game is the bonus round, where collected orbs upgrade the goat symbols step by step until all of them become Pink Elephants.

This review is based on the rules, paytable and buy menu of Thunderkick’s official demo. It covers the pay system, the Mystery Scatter, the free spins table, the symbol upgrade meters, the four feature buy options and their RTP values, and how to size a session for a high-volatility game.

How Pink Elephants 2 Works

Matching symbols pay when they land on consecutive reels from the first reel, in any position, which gives 4,096 ways on the 6×4 grid. Only the highest win per way is paid, and all wins in a round are added together at the end. The low-paying symbols are stone runes from 9 to A. The mid-win symbols are four goats – blue, green, orange and purple – and the Pink Elephant is the top symbol, paying 10x the bet for six of a kind (6.50x for five, 4.50x for four). The bearded purple goat is the strongest goat at 7x for six.

The Wild substitutes for every symbol except the scatter, in both the base game and the bonus game. There are no cascades, so each base game spin resolves once.

Scatters and the Mystery Scatter

The scatter is a golden medallion. Three or more anywhere on the reels trigger the bonus game. The award depends on how many land: 7 free spins for 3, 11 for 4, 15 for 5 and 19 for 6. The difference between a 3-scatter and a 6-scatter bonus is large because longer rounds give the upgrade meters more time to fill.

In the base game, the Mystery Scatter feature can add 1 to 5 extra scatter symbols on any spin, which raises the chance of reaching the trigger. During the bonus game, 2 or more scatters add spins: 3 for 2 scatters, 5 for 3, 7 for 4, 9 for 5 and 11 for 6.

Bonus Game: Elephant Orbs and Symbol Upgrades

During free spins, Elephant Orbs are collected into four symbol meters on the left of the reels, one for each goat. When a meter fills, that goat is replaced by the next mid-win symbol in the paytable for the rest of the round, and 1 extra free spin is awarded. Upgrades follow the paytable order of the mid-win symbols – blue, green, orange and purple goat – so each filled meter shifts the reels towards higher-paying symbols.

When the last meter fills, every mid-win symbol turns into the Pink Elephant for the remainder of the bonus. At that point the reels hold far fewer distinct symbol types, so wins across many of the 4,096 ways become much more frequent. Reaching the final stage early is what separates a large bonus from an ordinary one.

In our demo bonus, bought for 60x, the round ran 7 spins plus extensions from meter upgrades and scatters and finished at roughly 14x the bet – below its cost, which is a normal result for a high-volatility bonus.

Feature Buy Options

Where allowed, the Buy Feature menu offers four purchases. Each starts a spin that contains a guaranteed number of scatters, and each has its own theoretical RTP according to the rules:

OptionCost (demo)Free spinsRTP
3+ Scatters60x bet7 or more96.33%
4+ Scatters100x bet11 or more96.43%
5+ Scatters150x bet15 or more96.54%
6 Scatters250x bet1996.60%

The more expensive options have slightly higher RTPs, but they also concentrate more of the session budget into a single outcome. At a A$1 bet, one 6-scatter buy costs as much as 250 base game spins.

RTP and Maximum Win

The rules state a theoretical return of 96.13% for regular play, matching Thunderkick’s game page, which also rates volatility as high. A single game round is capped at 10,000x the bet; if the cap is reached, the round ends. Operators can be supplied with other RTP configurations, so read the RTP line in the rules at your casino.

Worked Example: Why Upgrades Matter

With six reels and four rows, a symbol needs to appear on reels 1, 2 and 3 to form the smallest win. If four goat types and the Pink Elephant are separate symbols, a spin has five different mid- and top-value symbols competing for those positions. After all four meters are filled, every goat position shows a Pink Elephant, so the same positions now produce one symbol paying up to 10x for six of a kind. Two Pink Elephants on each of the first three reels already form 8 winning ways (2 x 2 x 2) for a single spin.

Bankroll Tips for Pink Elephants 2

  • High volatility: size stakes so the budget covers at least 300 base game spins.
  • Count each feature buy in base spins: 60, 100, 150 or 250 spins’ worth at the same bet.
  • A bonus that does not reach the final meter stage often returns less than a 60x buy costs.
  • The 10,000x cap applies per game round.
  • Set loss and time limits before you start and use your casino’s deposit limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

The game rules list 96.13% for regular play. The four feature buy options carry 96.33%, 96.43%, 96.54% and 96.60%. Check the rules at your casino, as other configurations may be used.

A single game round is capped at 10,000x the bet. When the cap is reached, the round ends and no further wins are paid.

In the base game, 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters award 7, 11, 15 or 19 free spins. In the bonus game, 2 to 6 scatters add 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11 spins.

Elephant Orbs collected in free spins fill four meters, one per goat. A full meter upgrades that goat to the next mid-win symbol and adds 1 free spin. When the last meter fills, all goats become Pink Elephants for the rest of the round.

In the demo the 3+, 4+, 5+ and 6 scatter buys cost 60x, 100x, 150x and 250x the bet. Feature buys are not available in every market.

Responsible Gaming Note

Pink Elephants 2 is entertainment with a cost, and feature buys raise that cost quickly. Only play if you are 18 or older, set a budget and a time limit before you start and stop when you reach them. Free and confidential support is available 24/7 from Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858.

Final Verdict

Pink Elephants 2 is built around one goal: fill four meters during free spins and turn every goat into a Pink Elephant. The scatter table (7 to 19 spins), the Mystery Scatter and four feature buys with RTPs from 96.33% to 96.60% all serve that goal. With high volatility and a 10,000x cap, results are uneven; try the demo, check the RTP at your casino and budget feature buys in base-spin terms.
