Funky Time

Funky Time is a disco-themed live game show from Evolution, released in 2023. It uses a larger wheel than Evolution’s earlier shows (64 segments instead of 54) and replaces most number bets with letters that spell PLAY, FUNK and TIME. Four bonus games make up the rest of the wheel. This page covers the layout, bet types, hit rates, RTP and how the bonuses work.

Bonus segments total 12 of 64, so a bonus game is triggered on 18.75% of spins, a little more often than in Crazy Time (16.7%).

Bet Types

  • Number 1: pays 1 to 1 at base.
  • Letters: the betting grid groups the 12 letters into the words PLAY, FUNK and TIME. A winning letter pays 25 to 1 at base. Each letter has 2 segments (3.13% per spin), and each word’s four letters together cover 8 segments (12.5%).
  • Bonus bets: one stake on each bonus game you want to take part in. Only players with a stake on a bonus play it when it lands.

Random multipliers can be added to segments during a round, raising the payout of the affected bets above their base odds. The values and frequencies are part of the game’s random settings and are included in each bet’s RTP.

Example: A$2 on the letter F. The wheel stops on F with no multiplier. The bet pays 25 to 1: A$50 profit plus the A$2 stake.

RTP by Bet

The figures below are those reported from the game’s help screen. The game’s maximum RTP is 95.99%.

Letters (PLAY, FUNK, TIME)95.49%4.51%
Stayin’ Alive95.49%4.51%

Compared with other Evolution wheels, Funky Time’s best bet (95.99%) is below Dream Catcher’s 10 (96.58%), MONOPOLY Live’s optimal spot (96.23%) and Crazy Time’s number 1 (96.08%). The spread between its best and worst bets (0.61 percentage points) is smaller than in those games. Confirm the RTP in the help screen at your casino, as configurations can differ.

The Four Bonus Games

Bar (6 segments)

You choose one of three glasses. Each glass is filled with a multiplier, and one glass may receive an additional multiplier from the wheel. Your payout is the multiplier in the glass you chose times your Bar stake. The Bar bonus is the most frequent and usually the smallest.

Disco (3 segments)

Mr Funky dances across a floor of squares, each showing a multiplier. A direction indicator moves him left, right, up or down, and he collects the values he steps on until he leaves the floor. Some squares can boost or double values. All players with a Disco bet receive the same result.

VIP Disco (1 segment)

The same idea as Disco on a larger floor, so Mr Funky usually collects more values before he leaves it. It lands once every 64 spins on average and carries the highest variance of the four bonuses.

Stayin’ Alive (2 segments)

You choose a coloured ladder (or let the game choose). Balls are drawn: coloured balls move ladders up one or two levels, each level having a higher multiplier, while black balls remove lives. The round ends when the lives run out, and your ladder’s level sets your multiplier.

Each bonus has a maximum payout set in the game rules, and casinos may also cap winnings per round.

Variance and Coverage

Spreading bets across the layout raises your hit rate but not your return. Expected loss per spin is the sum of each stake times its house edge: A$1 on number 1 and A$1 on each of the four bonuses costs about A$0.22 per spin.

Practical Notes

  • Betting time is short; prepare your layout and use the repeat button.
  • Check minimums: with 12 letters, number 1 and 4 bonuses, covering many spots multiplies the minimum bet.
  • Wagering: live game shows usually count little or nothing towards bonus wagering requirements.
  • Results history shows past spins only; each spin is independent. See the gambler’s fallacy.

Funky Time is available at casinos with Evolution live games, such as Cosmobet and MORI WIN. To compare it with other shows, see MONOPOLY Live and Dream Catcher, or the Evolution games overview. Every live game we cover is in the live casino guide.
