Is There a Crown Casino Online? Crown, The Star and Online Pokies Explained

There is no Crown casino online. Crown Resorts runs land-based casinos in Melbourne and Perth and a hotel resort with a casino in Sydney, but it offers no online pokies, roulette or blackjack. Crown Melbourne answers the question on its own website: asked “I wish to gamble online with Crown, how do I go about it?”, it replies that the federal “Internet Gaming Moratorium” prevents Australian operators from doing this. The same applies to The Star. Any website offering “Crown pokies” for real money is not run by Crown.

This guide covers what Crown does offer online, why it cannot run an online casino, how brands with “Crown” in their name fit in, and the latest Crown and Star news. Facts about Crown were checked on its official websites on 29 October 2026.

What Crown Does Offer Online

Crown’s websites list four online services, none of them casino games:

  • Crown Rewards. The loyalty program for points on dining, hotels, entertainment and gaming at the three resorts. Members log in at Crown’s members portal.
  • The Crown Resorts app (App Store and Google Play). Crown describes it as a way to manage Crown Rewards and plan a visit. It has no casino games.
  • Crown Wallet. A cashless account you fund from your bank and then use on the casino floor at Crown Melbourne for gaming machines, electronic table games and chips at the cashier. The money is spent in the venue, not on a website.
  • Betfair Australia. Crown Resorts’ corporate site lists Betfair Australia (100%) among its “digital businesses”. Betfair is a betting exchange for racing and sport, which is a wagering product, not a casino.

Crown Resorts lists its businesses as Crown Melbourne, Crown Perth, Crown Sydney, a 50% interest in the UK-based Aspers Group and Betfair Australia. No online casino appears on that list.

Why There Are No Crown Casino Online Pokies

The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 makes it an offence to provide online casino games, including pokies, roulette, blackjack and live dealer tables, to customers in Australia. That rules out Crown, The Star and every other Australian operator. Online sports and racing betting with an Australian licence and official lotteries are the only legal forms of online gambling. Our explainers on the Interactive Gambling Act and whether online gambling is legal in Australia cover the rules product by product.

Any website that offers you “Crown pokies” or a “Crown online casino” is therefore either an offshore casino using the name or a scam. Australian law cannot help you recover money from either.

Online Casinos With “Crown” in the Name

Several offshore brands use “Crown” in their names. None of them appears among the businesses Crown Resorts lists, and the ACMA has asked Australian internet providers to block each of the four below:

A familiar name is not evidence of a link. In July 2026 the ACMA also blocked a domain that appeared to imitate the name of a licensed Australian bookmaker. Crown Pokies on the Casino Floor: The Rules in 2026

If you want to play pokies at Crown, you have to be in the venue, and the rules there are stricter than at any offshore site. At Crown Melbourne, according to its website:

  • Carded play. You need a Valid Card to play gaming machines. It carries your photo, needs Australian government photo ID or a passport, and requires time and loss limits set in YourPlay. Since 30 September 2025, a Valid Card is also required for all electronic table games.
  • Play limits. Crown enforces play-period limits of 12 hours a day and 36 hours a week.
  • Monthly statements. A Valid Card account must be opted in to a monthly Player Activity Statement.
  • Opening hours. The casino is open 24 hours a day except Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day, when it closes from 4am to 12pm.

Crown Melbourne operates under the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission’s casino rules. Offshore online casinos have no equivalent of mandatory loss limits or activity statements. Our comparisons of online and pub pokies and online and land-based gambling set out the differences in RTP, limits and protections.

Is The Star Casino Online?

No. The Star Entertainment Group operates The Star Sydney and The Star Gold Coast and is casino manager of The Star Brisbane, all land-based. The same law that stops Crown also stops The Star from offering online casino games. Its licences are under regulatory control in 2026:

  • The Star Sydney’s licence has been suspended since October 2022. The casino trades under a manager appointed by the NSW Independent Casino Commission, whose term was extended to 30 June 2027 (our report).
  • The suspension of The Star Gold Coast’s licence has been deferred again, to 31 March 2027.
  • The group reported a statutory net loss of $307.3 million for the year to 30 June 2026, and its accounts still carry a going-concern uncertainty (our report).

If You Want to Play Pokies Legally

Real-money pokies are legal in Australia only on the floor of a licensed venue: a casino such as Crown or The Star, or a pub or club with gaming machines, each regulated by its state or territory. Online, the legal options are licensed sports and racing betting and official lotteries.
