Live Dealer Tips

Live dealer games use real cards, wheels and dice streamed from a studio, but the maths is the same as in any casino game: every bet has a fixed house edge. What differs is the pace, the time pressure on decisions and the technical side of streaming. These tips focus on the decisions that change your results or your costs. For general live casino background, see our live casino tips in the strategy section.

Choosing the Table

1. Read the rules panel before the first bet

Every live table has a help or “i” button with the full rules, payouts and RTP. Two blackjack tables can look identical and have different rules: whether the dealer stands or hits on soft 17, whether doubling after splitting is allowed, and how many decks are used. In roulette, check for a single zero (97.30% RTP) rather than double zero (94.74%).

2. Compare RTPs across game types

Live gameTypical RTP rangeNotes
Blackjack (basic strategy)About 99.3% to 99.6%Depends on rules; side bets lower
Baccarat (Banker / Player)98.94% / 98.76%Tie bet about 85.6% at 8 to 1
European roulette97.30%All standard bets
Casino Hold’em97.84%With correct call/fold play
Money wheel game showsAbout 91% to 96.6%Varies by bet spot

A A$1,000 session of total bets at 99.5% costs A$5 on average; at 95% it costs A$50.

3. Prefer the main bets to side bets

Side bets such as blackjack’s Perfect Pairs and 21+3, baccarat’s pair bets, or the AA Bonus in Casino Hold’em usually carry house edges several times larger than the main game. Treat them as optional extras with a small fixed stake, or skip them.

4. Check table limits against your bankroll

Minimum bets on live tables are set by each casino. A table minimum that is more than 2% to 5% of your session budget leaves little room for normal variance. Our bankroll management guide explains how to size bets.

During Play

5. Plan around the betting window

Live tables give you a fixed time to bet, typically 10 to 20 seconds in game shows and a little longer at blackjack decision points. If you miss the window, you sit out the round (or, at blackjack, the table applies a default action such as stand). Decide your bet and strategy before the timer starts. Learn the blackjack basic strategy chart in advance rather than looking it up during the decision timer.

6. Use “repeat” and “undo” carefully

The repeat button places the same bets as the previous round, and “double” doubles them. Both are quick to press by accident. Check the total stake shown before the window closes.

7. Count rounds per hour, not just bet size

GameApproximate rounds per hourA$5 per round = total staked per hour
Standard live roulette30 to 50A$150 to A$250
Speed roulette or speed baccarat60 to 100A$300 to A$500
Money wheel game show40 to 60A$200 to A$300
Seated live blackjack40 to 70A$200 to A$350

Faster tables raise your total stake per hour, and therefore your expected loss, even at the same bet size and house edge. These are estimates; actual pace depends on the number of players and the studio.

8. Ignore results boards and “trends”

Roadmaps in baccarat, hot and cold numbers in roulette, and wheel statistics on game shows show history only. Each round is independent. See the gambler’s fallacy.

Technical Set-Up

9. Get a stable connection

A dropped connection during a round does not cancel your bets. Most live games settle open bets automatically, and blackjack tables apply default actions if you cannot respond. Use a stable Wi-Fi or wired connection rather than a weak mobile signal, close other streaming apps, and lower the video quality if the stream stutters. The quality setting affects only what you see, not the result.

10. Use the round history for disputes

Live games keep a round ID and history for every bet. If something looks wrong, note the round ID and time, take a screenshot, and contact support. Our guide to contacting casino support covers what to include.

Bonuses and Money

11. Read the live casino bonus terms

Many casinos weight live dealer games at 0% to 10% towards wagering requirements, exclude them completely, or cap the bet size while a bonus is active. Some offer separate live casino cashback or bonuses. Read the game weighting table before playing live games with bonus funds.

12. Set limits before you sit down

Use deposit limits, session reminders and loss limits in your casino account. Live games are designed to keep rounds flowing, which makes time limits as useful as money limits. See setting limits and reality checks.

Table Etiquette

  • Keep chat messages to the dealer polite and on topic. Dealers cannot discuss results, other players or personal matters.
  • Do not ask dealers for strategy advice; they are not allowed to give it.
  • Tipping is optional where offered and comes from your balance.
  • Abusive messages can lead to chat bans or account restrictions.

Where to Play

Live tables at offshore casinos mostly come from Evolution, with Pragmatic Play Live and Ezugi also common. Casinos carrying Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live include Golden Crown and National Casino; see our live dealer casinos list for a comparison. All live game guides are in the live casino guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your bets stay in play and are settled automatically. In blackjack, the table applies a default action (usually stand) if you cannot make a decision in time. Check the round history afterwards.

Blackjack played with basic strategy, at about 99.3% to 99.6% RTP depending on the rules, followed by the baccarat Banker bet (98.94%) and Player bet (98.76%).

Often only partially or not at all. Many casinos weight live games at 0% to 10%, so check the bonus terms first.

Results come from physical cards, wheels and dice in a monitored studio, and the payouts are published in each game’s rules. The house edge is built into the payouts, not into the dealing.

Usually 10 to 20 seconds per round for wheel and table bets, with similar short timers for blackjack decisions. The timer is shown on screen.
