Bonus Expiry and Time Limits

Every casino bonus has a time limit. If the wagering is not complete when it runs out, the bonus and any winnings made with it are removed. Time limits range from 24 hours for some free spins to 30 days for some reloads, and the same wagering requirement can be easy or impractical depending on the days allowed.

This page explains the different clocks in bonus terms and how to check that a deadline is realistic. It is part of our bonus guides.

The Clocks in Bonus Terms

ClockWhat it limitsTypical range
Claim windowTime to claim an offer after it is announced or after deposit24 hours to 7 days
Activation periodTime to activate a credited bonus or start free spins24 hours to 7 days
Wagering periodTime to complete wagering after activation3 to 30 days
Spin batch windowTime to use each daily batch of spins24 hours
Cashback or prize expiryTime to claim or use credited cashback24 hours to 7 days
Points expiryLoyalty points lapse after inactivityvaries by program

The wagering period is the one that matters most. Some terms start it from the deposit, others from activation; the difference can be days if you claim late.

Worked Example: Is the Deadline Realistic?

A A$100 bonus with 40x wagering needs A$4,000 of turnover. At a A$2 average stake that is 2,000 spins.

Time limitSpins per dayHours per day at 10 spins/min
3 days667about 1 hour 7 minutes
5 days400about 40 minutes
7 days286about 30 minutes
14 days143about 15 minutes
30 days67about 7 minutes

Casinonic’s 50x on a A$100 bonus in three days is A$5,000: 2,500 spins at A$2, about 833 spins or 1 hour 23 minutes of continuous play each day. Raising the stake shortens this but is limited by the max bet rule.

Bar chart of daily play needed to clear A$4,000 at A$2 per spin: about 67 minutes for 3 days down to 7 minutes for 30 days

Free Spins Batches and Separate Clocks

Spins released in daily batches each have their own window. Neospin credits its 100 welcome spins as 20 per day over five days, and PlayAmo’s welcome spins also arrive 20 per day. Each batch usually expires 24 hours after it is credited, so missing one day loses that batch. The wagering clock on spin winnings can be separate from the clock on the match bonus credited with the same deposit. Write down each deadline when you claim.

What Happens at Expiry

  • Sticky bonus: the bonus and any winnings derived from it are removed. Your original deposit may also be lost if it was mixed into wagering, depending on the terms.
  • Non-sticky bonus: if your real money is still in play, only the bonus is lost. If the bonus balance was active, the remaining bonus balance is removed.
  • Free spins: unused spins disappear; spin winnings with unfinished wagering are removed.
  • Cashback: unclaimed cashback lapses.

Expiry is not a breach; it ends the bonus without penalty beyond losing the bonus funds. But a bonus that has expired cannot normally be restored by support. See sticky vs non-sticky.

Time Zones

Deadlines are usually calculated in UTC or the casino’s server time. UTC midnight is 10 am in Sydney under AEST and 11 am under AEDT, 8 am in Perth. A bonus that “expires Sunday at 23:59 UTC” therefore runs until Monday morning in eastern Australia. Day-specific offers like Friday reloads follow the same clock.

How to Plan Around a Deadline

  1. Before claiming, calculate turnover and divide it by the days available.
  2. Claim the bonus at the start of a period when you have time to play, not before a busy week.
  3. Do not activate free spins or bonuses in advance if the clock starts at activation.
  4. Check progress daily in the bonus section.
  5. If you will clearly miss the deadline, consider forfeiting a non-sticky bonus early while real money is still yours.
  6. Use reminders; most casinos do not send expiry warnings.

Our guide to clearing a bonus shows a full session plan, and time management tools help keep the hours in check. Deadlines can pressure longer sessions; set a daily time limit first and only accept bonuses that fit inside it.

Expiry on Inactive Accounts

Separate from bonuses, inactive accounts can attract fees. RocketPlay charges a monthly A$25 (EUR 25 equivalent) dormancy fee after 12 months of inactivity; Woo Casino €25. Withdraw balances you are not using.

Current offers with their time limits are in our bonus archive, and the terms that interact with expiry are covered in reading casino terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Typically 3 to 30 days. Our reviews record 3 days at Casinonic and Wild Tornado, 5 days at RocketPlay, 7 days at BitStarz and 14 days at 7Bit and Bizzo.

The bonus and any winnings made with it are removed. With a non-sticky bonus your own money is kept if it had not yet been used.

It depends on the casino. Some terms count from the deposit, others from when the bonus is activated. Check the wording.

Rarely. Expired bonuses are normally not restored, so plan the turnover before you claim.

Usually UTC or server time. UTC midnight is 10 or 11 am in Sydney depending on daylight saving.

Deadlines should not set your playing time. Play only if you are 18+, and call Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858 for support.
