How to Read Casino Terms and Conditions: 12 Clauses to Check
Casino terms and conditions often run to many thousands of words across several documents. You don’t need to. A dozen clauses decide whether a withdrawal is paid, delayed or voided, and you can find them in about 15 minutes with your browser’s search function. This page lists those clauses, the search terms that find them, and the wording that should make you think twice. It is part of our casino tips and strategy section.
How to Search a T&C Page Quickly
- Open the General Terms, Bonus Terms and Payments pages separately; they are often different documents.
- Press Ctrl+F (or Find in Page on mobile) and search the keywords in the table below.
- Screenshot or save the page as a PDF with the date. Terms change, and you may need the version in force when you played.

Clauses That Cause the Most Disputes
Maximum bet while wagering
Example wording: “While a bonus is active, the maximum bet is A$7.50 per spin. Bets exceeding this amount may result in the forfeiture of the bonus and all winnings.” A single A$10 spin, even by accident, can void a large balance. Some casinos enforce it automatically; others only check when you withdraw. See the max bet rule.
Maximum cashout on free bonuses
No-deposit bonuses and free spins usually carry a cap: “Maximum withdrawable winnings from this bonus are A$100.” If you turn A$20 of free spins into A$1,200, A$1,100 is removed at withdrawal. This is standard, not a scam, but it should be read before you play. See no-deposit bonuses.
Irregular play
Watch for wording like “any betting pattern the casino deems irregular”. Common definitions include: betting on both red and black, lowering stakes sharply after the bonus is cleared, playing excluded high-RTP games, or using doubling systems while wagering. The vaguer the wording, the more discretion the casino keeps. Prefer terms that list specific prohibited behaviour.
Bonus and deposit sequencing
Many casinos use your real money first and bonus money second. Others lock deposit and bonus together until wagering is done. If the terms say the deposit is also locked, you cannot withdraw the deposit early without losing the bonus. The sticky vs non-sticky bonus guide explains the difference.
Red-Flag Wording
- “The casino may withhold winnings at its sole discretion” without stated conditions.
- “Terms may be changed without notice and apply retroactively.”
- Withdrawal limits that apply to jackpots, or monthly caps below A$10,000.
- Dormancy fees after short periods, such as 90 days.
- KYC with no stated timeframe plus the right to request “any document”.
- A clause allowing the casino to void winnings if you “win too much” relative to deposits.
One or two of these do not prove a site is unsafe, but several together are a strong reason to choose another casino. Our guide on spotting a scam casino covers other warning signs, and bonus red flags focuses on promotion terms.
What Good Terms Look Like
| Area | Clearer practice |
|---|---|
| Withdrawal limits | Stated in AUD with weekly and monthly figures; jackpots exempt |
| KYC | Listed documents and a processing time such as 24 to 72 hours |
| Bonus terms | Wagering on bonus only, a stated max bet, a list of excluded games |
| Irregular play | Specific examples rather than open discretion |
| Changes | Notice given; changes not applied to bonuses already accepted |
After You Have Read Them
- Note three numbers: weekly withdrawal limit, max bet with bonus, bonus deadline.
- If any clause is unclear, ask live chat and save the transcript.
- Decide whether to accept the bonus at all; declining removes clauses 5 to 9 from the picture.
- Keep your saved copy with your account records, alongside your session log from the bankroll management guide.
