Casino Deposit Fees: Where the Costs Hide

Most casinos in our database state that they charge no deposit fee. That does not make deposits free. The costs sit with your bank, your card issuer, the e-wallet or the crypto exchange, and they are rarely shown in the casino cashier. This page lists the fees each layer can add, the few casino-side charges we have recorded, and a cost comparison for a A$100 deposit by method.

Casinos That State No Casino-Side Fees

The table lists casinos whose recorded terms state no casino fee on deposits and, for most, none on withdrawals. Bank, card and network fees outside the casino’s control can still apply.

Card Deposits: The International Transaction Fee

Offshore casinos process card payments through overseas merchants. Australian banks often apply an international transaction fee to purchases from overseas merchants even when the amount is in Australian dollars. Commonwealth Bank’s fee page, for example, lists 3.5% on debit Mastercard purchases in A$ at an overseas merchant. On a A$100 deposit, that is A$3.50 you won’t see in the casino cashier. Check your own bank’s fee schedule; some accounts waive the fee.

Credit cards add more. Card issuers may treat gambling payments as cash advances, which usually attract a cash advance fee and interest from the day of the transaction. Separately, since 11 June 2024 the Interactive Gambling Act has banned licensed Australian online wagering providers from accepting credit cards, credit-card-linked wallets and digital currency, as explained on the ACMA credit ban page. Skrill and Neteller also state that Australian-issued credit cards can’t be used for gambling through their wallets. Use debit, not credit.

Withdrawal Fees Matter More

A fee on the way out often costs more than one on the way in, because withdrawals are larger and some methods carry fixed charges. US$60 on an Uptown Pokies wire is 6% of a US$1,000 withdrawal. Skrill charges 3% (minimum €3.50) to move money to your bank. For fee-free payout routes and timing, see fast withdrawals and withdrawal limits.

How to Keep Deposit Costs Down

  1. Open the casino account in AUD where offered. Our guide to AUD casinos explains which currency settings to choose.
  2. Use debit, not credit.
  3. Check your bank’s international transaction fee before using a card; PayID or bank-funded e-wallets avoid it.
  4. Keep e-wallets in the same currency as the casino account.
  5. Make fewer, larger deposits where fixed fees apply, within the budget you set in advance.
  6. Read the casino’s banking terms for fee recovery clauses before withdrawing soon after a deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most casinos in our data state no casino-side deposit fee. Exceptions include GunsBet, which charges 2.5% on some methods such as PaysafeCard and AstroPay, and Wolf Winner, which reserves the right to add processing fees.

Offshore casinos use overseas merchants, and many Australian banks charge an international transaction fee on overseas merchants even for A$ amounts. Commonwealth Bank, for example, lists 3.5% on debit Mastercard purchases in A$ at overseas merchants.

Avoid it. Since 11 June 2024 licensed Australian online wagering providers can’t accept credit cards, issuers may treat gambling payments as cash advances, and Skrill and Neteller say Australian-issued credit cards can’t be used for gambling.

For an AUD casino account, PayID and bank-funded e-wallets such as Jeton are usually fee-free. Debit cards can carry a bank international fee, and e-wallets cost more when currencies differ.

Sometimes. Uptown Pokies charges US$60 and Fair Go A$50 on wire withdrawals, and several casinos warn of intermediary bank fees of up to about u20ac16 on bank transfers.
