BPAY and Online Casinos in Australia
BPAY is Australia’s bill-payment system: you pay a business from your bank using its Biller Code and your Customer Reference Number (CRN). None of the casinos reviewed on BetsAuthority lists BPAY, and offshore casinos are very unlikely to offer it. To become a BPAY biller, a business must be incorporated or formed in Australia, hold an ACN or ABN, and have a relationship with an Australian bank. Offshore casino operators don’t meet those conditions.
Alternative: Casinos With Bank Transfer
The table below is not a list of BPAY casinos. It shows reviewed casinos that list bank transfer for deposits or withdrawals, the closest bank-to-casino option. Most use bank transfer mainly for payouts; for fast bank-funded deposits, PayID is the usual choice.
How BPAY Works
BPAY is operated by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), the same organisation that runs the NPP, Osko and PayID. Every BPAY payment needs two numbers:
| Element | What it is |
|---|---|
| Biller Code | Identifies the business; printed next to the BPAY logo on a bill |
| Customer Reference Number (CRN) | 2 to 20 digits identifying your account or bill; includes a check digit to catch typing errors |
| Intelligent CRN (iCRN) | A CRN that can restrict payment to a set amount, due date, or both |
| Timing | Business receives cleared funds on the next Banking Business Day; later if paid after your bank’s cut-off, on a weekend or a public holiday |
| Fees | Set by the biller; many charge nothing |
| Eligible billers | Businesses formed in Australia with an ACN or ABN and an Australian bank |

Why Offshore Casinos Don’t Offer BPAY
- Biller eligibility. BPAY billers must be Australian entities banking with an Australian institution. Casinos serving Australians from Curaçao, Anjouan or similar jurisdictions are not.
- Legal position. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 prohibits offering online casino services to people in Australia. Australian banks have no reason to onboard an operator whose core service is prohibited for Australian customers.
- Speed. Next-business-day settlement is slow for casino deposits. Payment processors that serve offshore casinos use PayID instead, which settles in under a minute.
BPAY does appear at Australian-licensed wagering operators, which are legal businesses with Australian banking. Online casino games, however, can’t be legally offered by any Australian-licensed operator. Our guide to online gambling law in Australia sets out what is and isn’t permitted.
Warning: “BPAY” Requests From Casinos
If a casino, “account manager” or support agent gives you a Biller Code and CRN to fund a casino account, stop and check who the biller is. Your banking app shows the biller name once you enter the code. Two risks apply:
- The biller may be an unrelated business (for example, a prepaid or top-up service), and the money is credited to someone else’s account with it.
- Banks can’t reclaim a BPAY payment because a business didn’t deliver goods or services. AP+ directs such disputes to the business or a state consumer protection agency, which won’t help with an offshore casino.
More warning signs are in our guide to spotting a scam casino.

Mistaken BPAY Payments
AP+ sets out what to do when a BPAY payment goes wrong. These rules apply to any biller, including a top-up or prepaid service used as a go-between:
| Situation | Action |
|---|---|
| Wrong Biller Code or CRN | Contact your bank immediately; it can start a mistaken-payment process |
| Paid too much or paid twice | Contact your bank immediately |
| Paid too little | Make a second payment for the difference; check your bank’s fees first |
| Business didn’t deliver | Bank can’t reclaim the payment; contact the business or a state consumer protection agency |
The CRN check digit catches most typing errors before the payment is sent. It won’t catch a correct number that belongs to someone else’s account, which is why the biller name shown in your banking app matters.
Bank Gambling Blocks
Several Australian banks let customers block gambling transactions on their cards from the banking app. These blocks typically rely on the merchant category code of card payments, so they don’t cover every payment type, including some bank transfers. If you want a firm barrier, combine a bank block with device-level tools; our guide to gambling blocking software lists the options.
Bank-Funded Options That Do Work
| Method | Reviewed casinos listing it | Deposit speed | Use for withdrawals |
|---|---|---|---|
| BPAY | 0 | Next business day | No |
| PayID | 5 | Usually under a minute | Not via PayID |
| Bank transfer | 41 (mostly withdrawals) | Typically 1 to 5 business days for international deposits | Yes |
| POLi | 0 (closed in Australia, 30 September 2023) | n/a | n/a |
| Debit card (Visa/Mastercard) | Most casinos | Instant if approved | Some casinos |
For deposits from an Australian bank account, PayID is the practical replacement. For withdrawals, bank transfer is the default at most casinos, with crypto and e-wallets faster. Payout times by method are on the fast withdrawals page.
Receiving Winnings in Your Bank Account
BPAY only moves money from you to a biller, so it can never be used for payouts. Bank withdrawals from the casinos in the table follow this pattern:
- Verify your account (ID, proof of address, and often a bank statement in your name). See the KYC verification guide.
- Request the withdrawal and enter your BSB and account number, or IBAN/SWIFT details if the cashier asks for international format.
- Wait for the pending period (0 to 72 hours at most reviewed casinos).
- Allow 1 to 10 business days for the transfer. RocketPlay lists 3 to 7 banking days; BitStarz 3 to 10; HellSpin 1 to 3.
Our bank withdrawal walkthrough covers the cashier steps in more detail, and all payment methods are compared on the payments hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not at any casino reviewed on BetsAuthority. BPAY billers must be businesses formed in Australia with an ACN or ABN and an Australian bank, which offshore casino operators are not.
The business receives cleared funds on the next Banking Business Day. Payments made after your bank’s cut-off, on weekends or on public holidays are processed the following business day.
Your bank can help with mistaken payments such as a wrong Biller Code or CRN, but it can’t reclaim a payment because the business failed to deliver. That makes BPAY unsuitable for paying unknown offshore operators.
PayID. You pay from your own bank account through your banking app and the payment usually settles in under a minute. Five reviewed casinos list PayID deposits.
No. BPAY only moves money from a customer to a biller. Casino winnings are paid by bank transfer, e-wallet or crypto after identity verification.
