Casino Promo Codes Explained

A promo code (bonus code or coupon) is a word or string you enter to activate a specific promotion. Codes let a casino run several offers at once on the same deposit page and track which one each player chose. The code itself adds no value; the terms attached to it decide what you get.

This page covers where codes are entered, what goes wrong and how to compare coded offers. It is part of our bonus guides.

Codes come from our reviews of GunsBet, 7Bit, Fair Go and others. Codes are changed or retired regularly; confirm them on the casino’s promotions page or in our bonus archive before depositing.

Where Codes Are Entered

  • Cashier, before payment: the most common location. A “Have a bonus code?” field appears on the deposit form. The code must be accepted before you confirm the payment.
  • Registration form: some casinos have a code field during sign-up, mostly for no deposit offers or affiliate deals.
  • Bonus or promotions page: some casinos list offers with an “Activate” button and the code applied automatically.
  • Live chat: CristalPoker’s no deposit spins and per-deposit spins are claimed by asking support.

Our step-by-step guide to using a promo code covers each method.

Why Missed Codes Are Rarely Added Later

If you deposit first and enter the code afterwards, most casinos will not attach the bonus. Bonus terms usually give one of these reasons:

  • The deposit has already been played, even partially.
  • The bonus terms say the code must be entered before payment.
  • Another promotion was triggered automatically by the deposit.

Some casinos will add it if you contact support before placing any bet. Do not play the deposit while you wait, and keep the chat transcript.

Common Code Errors

  1. Wrong day: day-specific codes like WEDNESDAY or SALOON work only on that day, often in UTC rather than Australian time.
  2. Deposit too small: COWBOYFS requires a deposit over A$85; a A$85 deposit exactly may not qualify.
  3. Wrong order: welcome codes like GUNS2 work only on the second deposit.
  4. Excluded payment method: some methods do not qualify for any bonus.
  5. Active bonus: most casinos allow one active bonus; a second code is rejected or cancels the first.
  6. Region: codes published for other countries may not apply to AUD accounts.
  7. Case or spacing: codes are usually not case-sensitive, but copied codes can include a trailing space.

“Exclusive” Codes

Affiliate sites often advertise exclusive codes with extra spins or a higher match. Compare the full terms with the standard offer: an extra 20 spins with 60x wagering instead of 40x can be worth less. The value calculation is the same as for any bonus: turnover multiplied by house edge against the bonus amount. See wagering requirements.

Comparing Two Coded Offers

GunsBet’s SALOON (60% up to A$550, x40) and Wild Fortune’s WEEKEND (40% up to A$150) both apply to a A$100 weekend deposit. SALOON gives A$60 of bonus and A$2,400 of turnover at x40, an expected loss of A$96 at 96% RTP. WEEKEND gives A$40; the wagering for this offer must be read in Wild Fortune’s coupon terms before the comparison can be finished. A larger percentage at the same multiplier always means more turnover, so a code’s match percentage alone does not show which offer costs less.

Codes That Are Not Bonuses

Some codes trigger cashback, entry to a tournament or a reward-shop item. Others opt you out of bonuses entirely: several casinos let you tick “I don’t want a bonus” in the cashier. Opting out keeps your deposit free of wagering, although deposit turnover rules may still apply (HellSpin, Woo and Rooli require 3x).

Checking a Code Before You Use It

  1. Find the code on the casino’s own promotions page, not only on a third-party site.
  2. Read the linked terms: minimum deposit, wagering, max bet, expiry, win cap.
  3. Check that your payment method qualifies.
  4. Enter the code in the cashier and confirm the bonus preview shows the expected amount.
  5. Deposit, then check the bonus appears in your account before your first spin.
