Infectious 5 xWays
Infectious 5 xWays flips the superhero formula: its stars are five villains called Havoc, Mind Flayer, Torch, Misery and Toxicity, set in a polluted, post-apocalyptic city. Released by Nolimit City in June 2021, the game focuses on a single mechanic rather than combining several, and that mechanic is the upgraded Infectious xWays, first seen in East Coast vs West Coast.
Nolimit City rates the game as Extreme volatility with a maximum win of 55,555x the bet. It starts on a 5×4 grid with 1,024 ways and can expand to far more when Infectious xWays spreads across the reels. This review explains how the mechanic works and how to choose between the free spins modes, based on Nolimit City’s official game page.

How Infectious 5 xWays Works
The game uses five reels with four rows, giving 1,024 ways in the base layout. Matching symbols pay on adjacent reels from left to right, starting from the first reel. The five villains are the premium symbols, and regular Wilds substitute for paying symbols. On their own the wilds are ordinary, but they become very important when they land alongside an xWays symbol. Nolimit City lists a hit frequency of 31.34%, so close to one spin in three produces a win.
xWays and Infectious xWays
The xWays symbol is a mystery symbol that reveals one symbol type and expands its reel so that it holds 2 to 3 copies of that symbol. This adds rows to the reel and increases the number of ways.
If an xWays symbol lands together with a Wild, it becomes Infectious xWays. The revealed symbol then spreads like a virus: every other instance of that symbol on the reels expands to the same size. A single Infectious xWays that reveals a symbol already showing on several reels can therefore expand all of them at once, multiplying the number of ways in one move. Reviewers note that the ways count can grow from 1,024 to over 100,000 in extreme cases.
Infectious Spins: Choose Your Mode
Landing 3 or 4 bonus symbols triggers Infectious Spins, and you choose between two modes. Four bonus symbols add one extra spin in either mode.
- Toxic Hazard (9 or 10 spins) places 1 to 5 random wilds on the middle reels on every spin. Because a wild is always present, any xWays that lands becomes Infectious xWays instantly, with a good chance of connecting a win. This is the steadier option.
- Lock n’ Load (7 or 8 spins) is the more volatile choice. Every wild that lands locks in place for the rest of the feature and awards an extra spin, and wilds can carry a 2x or 3x multiplier. Once wilds are locked, any xWays symbol is guaranteed to become Infectious.
Mayhem Mode
Mayhem Mode is the top bonus, awarding 10 or 12 spins. It is triggered by 5 bonus symbols in the main game, or by collecting a total of 5 bonus symbols during Infectious Spins. In this mode the five villain symbols all reveal the same top golden symbol, which means far more matching premium symbols on the reels and much bigger Infectious xWays expansions.
Bonus Buy
The Nolimit Bonus lets you buy one of three bonus features directly, with prices ranging from 75x to 555x the base bet. The higher prices give access to the stronger features. The option is removed in some regulated markets, so it is not available at every casino. Buying a feature skips the base game, but it does not make a big result any more likely once the bonus starts, and many buys return less than they cost.
RTP Versions: Check Before You Play
Nolimit City publishes an RTP of 96.02% for Infectious 5 xWays. As with the studio’s other games, operators can choose lower configurations, commonly around 94%. Features are the same in every version, so the RTP figure in the game info at your casino is the only reliable check.
Worked Example: An Infectious Spread
Start with the standard 1,024 ways: four rows on each of five reels. Now suppose a Wild lands on reel 3 and an xWays on reel 2 reveals Havoc stacked three high. Because a Wild is in view, the xWays becomes Infectious, and the Havoc symbols on reels 1 and 4 also expand to three high. Each expansion adds two rows to its reel, so reels 1, 2 and 4 grow from four to six positions, taking the total from 1,024 to 6 x 6 x 4 x 6 x 4 = 3,456 ways, with Havoc covering large parts of the grid. That is how a single symbol can transform a spin.
Bankroll Tips for Infectious 5 xWays
- Budget for at least 300 spins; Infectious Spins arrive about once every 220 spins on average.
- Choose Toxic Hazard for steadier bonus results and Lock n’ Load only if you can handle bigger swings.
- Treat bonus buys as high-risk purchases with no guaranteed return.
- Set loss and time limits, and use your casino’s deposit limit tools.
