How to Change Your Casino Account Currency

Your account currency decides what you pay in conversion fees on every deposit and withdrawal. An Australian playing in USD or EUR pays a foreign exchange margin twice: once when the bank converts the deposit and again when a withdrawal is converted back. On card payments, Australian banks typically charge an international transaction fee of about 2% to 3.5% as well. Over a year of regular play, that difference adds up to more than many bonuses are worth.

A worked example: you deposit A$200 by Visa into a USD account. A 3% international transaction fee costs A$6, and the bank’s exchange margin (often 1% to 3% on top of the mid-market rate) costs a few dollars more. If you later withdraw US$100 by wire, the conversion back to A$ carries another margin, plus any intermediary fee. In an AUD account paid by PayID, both costs are usually zero.

Casinos handle currency in one of three ways, which determines how easy a change is.

How Casinos Handle Currency

SetupHow it worksChanging currency
Single fiat currency, fixed at sign-upOne balance in the currency chosen at registrationNot self-service; support must change it or open a new account
Multi-walletSeparate balances (for example AUD, USD, BTC, USDT) under one loginSwitch or add a wallet in the cashier or profile
Display currency onlyBalance stored in one currency, shown in anotherChanging display does not change what you pay

Many crypto-focused casinos use multi-wallets. Many traditional casinos lock the currency at registration. Our page on AUD casinos explains which features to check.

Step-by-Step: Changing or Adding a Currency

  1. Check whether your casino has a wallet selector. Look for a currency drop-down next to your balance, or a Wallets section in Profile or Cashier.
  2. If there is a selector, add AUD (or the coin you want). Select it and confirm. A new wallet usually starts at zero; existing balances stay in their original wallet.
  3. Move or use the old balance. Some casinos offer an internal exchange between wallets at their rate. Otherwise, play down or withdraw the old balance before switching your main wallet.
  4. If there is no selector, withdraw your balance first. Clear or forfeit any bonus, then withdraw the full balance.
  5. Contact support and request the change. Write: “Please change the currency of account [ID] from USD to AUD. My balance is zero and no bonuses are active.” Some casinos can do this in minutes; others will refuse.
  6. If support cannot change it, ask about a new account. Never open a second account yourself. Ask support to close the existing account and authorise a new one in AUD, and get that permission in writing. Unauthorised duplicate accounts can lead to confiscated winnings.
  7. Check your payment methods. After the change, confirm that your preferred deposit and withdrawal methods are available in the new currency. PayID, for example, is A$ only.

What a Currency Change Affects

  • Bonuses: active bonuses are tied to the currency they were issued in and are usually forfeited by a change. Welcome offers already used in one currency cannot be claimed again in another.
  • Limits: deposit and withdrawal limits may be set in each currency separately. Re-check them; see how to set deposit limits.
  • Game stakes: pokies stakes are shown in the account currency, so a 1.00 spin in AUD is about two-thirds the cost of a 1.00 spin in USD at typical exchange rates.
  • Loyalty status: points and VIP levels usually carry across, but ask before switching.

Common Problems and Fixes

The currency option is greyed out

This usually means a non-zero balance, an active bonus or a pending withdrawal. Clear all three, then try again or contact support.

You chose the wrong currency at registration and already deposited

Contact support before you play. If the deposit is untouched, some casinos will convert it and switch the account. If you have played, they will usually ask you to play down or withdraw first.

Deposits are converted even though the account is in AUD

Check the payment method. Some processors settle in USD or EUR even when the account is AUD, and your bank may then add an international fee. Our deposit fees guide explains how to spot this on a bank statement. PayID and local bank methods avoid it.

Crypto balance shows a different A$ value every day

In a crypto wallet, your balance is held in the coin, so its A$ value moves with the market. If you want a stable value, use a stablecoin wallet such as USDT, or an AUD wallet.

Support says changing currency is impossible

Accept the answer rather than opening a second account. Weigh the conversion costs against reasons to stay; it may be cheaper to withdraw and choose a casino that supports AUD from the start. Our casino checklist includes currency as a criterion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only at casinos with multi-currency wallets. At single-currency casinos, support must make the change, and some will not.

In a multi-wallet setup, the old balance stays in its wallet. In a single-currency account, casinos usually require a zero balance before changing, so withdraw first.

It avoids foreign exchange margins and international transaction fees on deposits and withdrawals, and makes stakes and limits easier to track.

Usually yes. Bonuses are issued in a specific currency and are forfeited or must be completed before a change.

Only with written permission from the casino. Opening a second account without approval usually breaches the terms and can void winnings.
