Speed Baccarat: Same Odds, Faster Rounds
Speed baccarat is a live dealer format of punto banco built for pace. Cards are dealt face up without squeezing, the betting window is shorter and the dealer moves straight to the next round. Providers advertise rounds of under 30 seconds, roughly half the length of a standard live baccarat round. The rules, payouts and probabilities are identical to normal baccarat: Banker 1.06% house edge, Player 1.24%, Tie 14.36% at 8:1. What changes is the number of hands you play per hour, and with it the hourly cost. This page is part of our baccarat guide.
Where to Play Speed Baccarat
The casinos below accept Australian players and, according to our reviews, run live casino sections with tables from studios such as Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live or Ezugi, where speed baccarat tables are typically found. Check the live lobby for the exact tables before depositing.
How a Speed Round Works
- A short betting window opens (much shorter than on standard tables).
- The dealer deals Player and Banker cards face up, with no squeeze or reveal ritual.
- Third cards are drawn by the standard rules.
- Results are settled and the next betting window opens immediately.
The baccarat rules page covers the third-card rules applied in step 3.

Speed vs Standard vs Squeeze
| Format | Card reveal | Approx. round length | Assumed hands per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squeeze baccarat | Cards bent and revealed slowly | Longer than standard | about 40 |
| Standard live baccarat | Face up after short pause | About 45–60 seconds | about 60 |
| Speed baccarat | Face up immediately | Under 30 seconds | about 100–120 |
| RNG baccarat | Instant | Player-controlled | 200+ possible |
Hands-per-hour figures are assumptions for comparison; real pace depends on shuffles and how often you skip rounds. Squeeze tables are covered on our squeeze baccarat page.
Odds Are Identical
| Bet | Payout | Probability (8 decks) | House edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banker | 0.95:1 | 45.86% | 1.06% |
| Player | 1:1 | 44.62% | 1.24% |
| Tie | 8:1 | 9.52% | 14.36% |
| Player/Banker Pair | 11:1 | 7.47% | 10.36% |
Speed does not alter the cards, the shoe or the drawing rules. Full tables: baccarat odds and house edge.
The Real Difference: Hourly Cost
Expected loss = stake × hands × house edge. Same stake, twice the hands, twice the expected cost.
| Format | Stake (Banker) | Hands/hour | Total staked | Expected loss/hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard live | A$20 | 60 | A$1,200 | A$12.72 |
| Speed | A$20 | 120 | A$2,400 | A$25.44 |
| Speed at half stake | A$10 | 120 | A$1,200 | A$12.72 |
Halving the stake on a speed table gives the same expected hourly cost as a standard table. Variance per hour also rises with more hands, so session results swing further from the starting balance in both directions.
Swings Per Hour
A flat Banker bet has a standard deviation of about 0.93 units per hand. Over an hour, the spread of results grows with the square root of the number of hands:
| Format | Hands/hour | Expected result (units) | One standard deviation (units) | At A$20 per hand |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard live | 60 | −0.6 | ±7.2 | −A$12.72, typical range ±A$144 |
| Speed | 120 | −1.3 | ±10.2 | −A$25.44, typical range ±A$204 |
In both formats the chance of finishing a single hour ahead is a little under one in two (about 46% standard and 45% speed by normal approximation). The faster format does not make a winning hour less likely in a meaningful way; it doubles the money exposed and the expected cost, and widens the range of outcomes. A session budget sized for standard tables therefore runs out sooner on speed tables at the same stake.
Who Speed Baccarat Suits
- Players who want many decisions in a short session and are comfortable lowering the stake.
- Players working through a fixed number of hands, for example a set budget at a fixed stake.
It is less suited to players who use long sessions: at A$20 per hand, a two-hour speed session puts about A$4,800 through the table, roughly double a standard table.
Practical Settings
- Lower your usual stake by about half if moving from standard to speed.
- Use a session time limit or reality check (reality checks).
- Avoid the Tie and side bets, which cost 10%–14% on the common versions; with more hands per hour their cost multiplies.
- Prepare bets before the window opens, or use the repeat-bet button, to avoid missed rounds.
- Track your total staked, not only wins and losses: tracking your spending shows how.
Speed Baccarat and Bonuses
Live baccarat, including speed tables, is often excluded from bonus wagering or counted at 0%–10%. Some bonus terms also prohibit betting Player and Banker in the same round. Read game weighting before playing with bonus funds.
