Live Roulette Online: Formats, Rules and Costs

Live roulette streams a real wheel, a real ball and usually a human dealer from a studio to your device. Results come from the physical spin, read by sensors in the wheel, and bets are placed on a digital layout during a countdown. The odds are those of the wheel in use: 2.70% house edge on single-zero tables, 5.26% on double-zero tables and 1.35% on even-money bets at French tables with La Partage. Multiplier games change the payouts and have their own figures. This page is part of our roulette guide; for streamed games in general, see the live casino guide.

Where to Play Live Roulette

The casinos below accept Australian players and, according to our reviews, run live casino sections with tables from studios such as Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live or Ezugi. Check the live lobby for single-zero and French tables before you deposit.

How a Live Round Works

  1. The betting timer opens (typically 10–20 seconds on standard tables, less on speed tables).
  2. Place chips on the layout or the racetrack.
  3. The dealer launches the ball; betting closes shortly after.
  4. Sensors in the wheel identify the winning pocket, and the number appears on screen with a close-up camera view.
  5. Winnings are credited; the history panel updates.

If your connection drops after betting closes, the spin still counts and results are credited to your balance. The game history in your account shows each round.

Pace and Hourly Cost

Expected loss per hour = stake per spin × spins per hour × house edge. Live tables run fewer spins than RNG games, so at equal stakes they cost less per hour.

FormatAssumed spins per hourStakeEdgeExpected loss per hour
Standard live table40A$102.70%A$10.80
Speed / auto live table80A$102.70%A$21.60
RNG roulette200A$102.70%A$54.00
French live, even-money40A$101.35%A$5.40

Spin counts here are assumptions for comparison; actual pace depends on the table and how often you skip rounds.

Limits

Live roulette limits are set per casino. Typical ranges at offshore casinos accepting Australians run from about A$0.20–A$1 minimum on many tables to several thousand dollars on outside bets at high-limit tables, with separate maximums for straight-ups. Check the limits panel before using any progression; see Martingale for why limits matter.

Is Live Roulette Fair?

The wheel is physical and results follow the wheel’s probabilities. Major live providers operate under gaming licences in the jurisdictions where their studios sit and have their games tested. The larger risk for Australians is the casino rather than the studio: online casinos offering roulette to people in Australia are not licensed here, because offering real-money online casino games to Australians is prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. Check the operator’s licence and complaint history (how to check a casino licence) before depositing.

Strategy Notes for Live Tables

  • Choose single-zero tables; prefer French tables with La Partage for even-money bets.
  • Ignore the hot and cold numbers display; physical wheels in studios are maintained and spins are independent.
  • Use the racetrack for call bets (Voisins, Tiers, Orphelins) if you like sector betting; the edge stays 2.70%. See French roulette.
  • Set a session time as well as a budget, since live rounds are slower and sessions tend to run longer (reality checks).
  • Live roulette usually contributes 0%–10% to bonus wagering; check game weighting.

Checklist Before Joining a Table

  1. Wheel type: one zero or two (look at the top of the layout).
  2. La Partage or En Prison on even-money bets: stated in the help screen.
  3. RTP for each bet type, especially on multiplier tables where straight-ups pay less than 35:1.
  4. Minimum and maximum per bet type, including the straight-up maximum.
  5. Betting window length: speed tables leave little time for complex bets.
  6. Whether you are playing with real or bonus funds, and the game’s wagering contribution.
  7. Your session limit, set in the casino’s responsible gambling tools before the first spin.
